Grass and ruin Digital Drawing

This piece was originally me drawing a ruin from reference but I ended up creating a grassy field without the former buildings. The grass and sky were more engaging for me to create. I enjoyed creating the layers of green in the grass and the lines of clouds in the sky. The ruins I had started to draw seemed to ruin it. (pun unintended) The ruins covered the layers of grass in a way that made it seem like a waste. I wanted the grass to stand out in this piece.

20 Sec Maya Animation

What if everyday objects were alive and conscious? Would we still act the same way with what we buy and what we damage? Would we change the way we see factories? Would factories make living things or destroy them? I’d like for them to create but I figure they would destroy the living portions of these items. It seems more logical that factories take away the sentience of inanimate objects. Why else do humans instinctively talk to these objects when we are programmed to search for eyes? This project is meant to seem somewhat cute but shows a seemingly aware machine taking away the eyes of the boxes that go through it. Eventually, two of the boxes fled, but most get stuck on this loop forever. These objects are living, but not human they do not move as you might expect. This project was modeled and animated in Maya. After Maya, I took it into Premier to add sound. The sounds aren’t mine they are from bmccoy2 and PatrickLieberkind on freesound.

More Basic Animating In Maya

Made a longer animation focusing on changing the movement with the graph editor. As the royal piece moves the blocks below it shrink away but somehow as it comes back the blocks reappear. I made this pretty basic but added red to the color of the light to give the piece a more flesh tone. The piece is meant to be like a person, while the blocks represent the paths we take.

Animating My Chess Board In Maya

I animated a chessboard that I had designed previously. Originally thinking of the flipping table meme that has long since been dead, I took it for a spin. Get it? The board and pieces spin. Anyway, I animated it to 15fps and then brought it up into photoshop which I then converted into a gif. No strong message with this one It was just a fun animation loop I wanted to make.

3D Animation Loops I like

Was looking for creature animations but didn’t find any in the style I was looking for. These are both in the style’s I was thinking about but with objects and a seemingly sentient sphere. The first intrigued me because it was a simple concept but that it reconfigured the walk cycle of the character every time it went through a door. The second one struck me with its simple animation of a sentient machine. It seems happy with all the bright colors and literal smiling faces being produced but the eyes on the machine seem to blink in pain every time the loop ends.

Redesigning Chess in Maya

When trying to come up with a way to completing change chess, I thought “what happens when there’s no king?” Without a king piece there is no way to win. I decided to continue on that front and create three kinds of pieces, pawn, nobility, and royalty. The pawns play the same but the nobility have to play like rooks. Finally, the royalty pieces, formerly king and queen play in a mix of the twos pathing. All the while, i’ve changed the board a bit, the rised levels show where the player of the opposing team needs to reach with one or both of the royalty pieces.

Maya Household Object

I started by trying to create a remote control but after maya gave me 3 fatal errors I decided to make a new scene and keep it simple. For this I created a curve and revolved it. Most of the play I did with this was with different kinds of materials. The top is a phongE while the bottom is a blinn. The top is close to the misty glass I was trying for but the bottom two are a metallic and clear combination which I found interesting.

Maya Experimental Object

I was playing with different tools in Maya, and created something that reminded me of a table or a lamp base by revolving around a curve I drew and decided to go with that idea. The arms are a nurb circle extruded along a curve with spheres placed on the end. The top is a curve lofted towards another curve. Said curve has another curve lofted towards a duplication of said curve. The color comes from a directional light being red and a ambient light being orange. It makes me think of a candle stick but also a table.
